When it comes to concrete, let’s be honest that its beauty leaves a lot to be desired. Concrete is known for being unpleasing to the eye, and boring to say the least. However, that doesn’t have to be the case! So that’s where decorative concrete comes in – so let’s take a look at how you can transform your building with a little bit of help from Nawkaw.

What is decorative concrete?

Rather than merely using concrete as a building material, decorative concrete is used as an aesthetic enhancement to a structure, while at the same functioning as an integral part of the building itself (e.g., walls, doors, floors, etc.).

The most basic of building materials can be transformed into decorative concrete in a number of different ways. Either by using formliners during the pouring process or after the concrete is cured. The most common forms, however, are achieved through stamped concrete, acid staining, decorative overlays, and so on.

A brief history

While decorative concrete may sound like innovation, it’s been around since the 1950s, where it started in the form of colored concrete. What happened was that synthetic iron oxide was added to the concrete mix, which allowed contractors to turn the concrete into several different earthy colors.

Fast forward to today, and we’re sure you can imagine just how much techniques have advanced. Now, you can easily give concrete the appearance of cobbled brick, meaning you don’t have to shell out on expensive masonry during the building process.

Concrete staining

Here at Nawkaw, the way we help creating decorative concrete is by using our proprietary stains. Our innovations have helped turn concrete from that dull building material we mentioned earlier to a work of art, used by architects around the world for over thirty years.

We’re able to achieve natural wood or stone tones, from the cool sheen of metals to something more wild and vivid. No matter if you’re looking for help with new buildings or restoration projects, stains are the perfect way of producing decorative concrete. Concrete stains are eco-friendly, low maintenance, plus we can help you every step of the way to ensure that everything is done without delay.
